 Museum Brandhorst

Fittingly, the Brandhorst Museum - home to 700 works of art from the collection of Udo and Anette Brandhorst -- stands at the entrance of the arts district in Munich, Germany. Designed by Sauerbruch & Hutton Architects, its most striking feature are the 36,000 vertical ceramic tubes from Hunter Douglas company NBK that cover its facade. The architects painstakingly designed this colourful facade in response to nearby structures, and set the tubes in front of colored, perforated aluminum sheeting to create a gentle veil on the outside. Sunlight shining on the facade creates a dynamic pattern of shadows caused by the ceramic tubes, further enhancing the effect.
