Rhein Center is the largest shopping mall in Cologne, Germany with more than 40,000 sqm of indoor retail space and more than 1,500 parking spaces. Its first major renovation in 2008 made it a first-class shopping mall in Europe.
The architect applied some new innovative ideas into the latest renovation. The facade of the building, featuring a Hunter Douglas Custom Louver System, has given Rhein Center a completely new and modern face. The light gray fins are perceived as a “bar code”, representing the connection of the building with the “shopping” theme. The light natural stones, together with the wood and stainless steel, have created a comfortable indoor atmosphere for the customers. The new lighting system consists of the outdoor sun control system combined with the new ceilings provides abundant light and transparency. In several lounge areas, customers have the opportunity to relax in leather armchairs surrounded by lush plants and fountains.
